Vampire Weekend: Everyone’s Favorite Indie Band Returns

If you’re anyone anywhere, you must have heard the news that New York- based band Vampire Weekend are finally emerging from their hiatus, ongoing since wrapping up shows in 2014 for their third and latest record, Modern Vampires of the City. After all these years of only sporadic, tiny clues by frontman Ezra Koenig, fans finally have some closure in the announcement of the band’s first new show, headlining End Of the Road Festival in the United Kingdom. To add to all the speculation floating around the internet, the band is also rumored to be playing Lollapalooza in Chicago this summer, although the lineup is yet to be released.

Vampire Weekend first made waves in the indie scene of the early 2000s with their self-titled debut album. Since then, they’ve been becoming a household name, dropping two more records with only a few years in-between. During this hiatus, approaching five years now, band member Rostan Batmanglii left the group (2016) to pursue a solo career, and lead singer Koenig created and produced Netflix series, Neo Yokio.

It’s obvious that no matter how long the wait has been for new material from the band, fans only seem to be anticipating it more and creating more hype. One can only hope that this announcement will mean something much bigger is coming, and we might see Vampire Weekend on a worldwide tour and releasing more of those indie pop tunes we love sooner than we think.
